Dog seat cover or boot liner? How to choose for your car

If your dog comes along in the car, a cover or liner keeps hair, mud and claws off the back seat or out of the boot. This guide helps you choose between a back-seat cover and a boot liner, and shows what to measure before you order.

Back seat or boot?

Pick a back-seat cover if your dog rides on the back seat. Pick a boot liner if you drive an SUV or wagon and your dog rides in the boot. Whichever you choose, check your state or territory's rules on restraining pets in cars.

The dog car seat cover for the back seat

  • Waterproof top layer that keeps dog hair, mud and claws off the upholstery
  • An opening in the middle, so you can still use the armrest
  • About 137 cm wide across the seat back: two 56 cm side panels and a 25 cm middle panel
  • About 56 cm high, with side flaps of about 45 cm
  • Wipe it, or shake it clean after a trip

The dog boot liner for SUVs and wagons

  • Waterproof, wear-resistant fabric
  • Main panel about 180 cm long, including the end with two straps, and 103 cm wide
  • A side flap of about 76 × 35 cm on each side
  • Black only

How to measure your car

Back seat: measure across the back of the seat from one side to the other, then measure its height. Compare these with the cover's width of about 137 cm and height of about 56 cm.

Boot: measure the width of your boot and compare it with the liner's width of about 103 cm. The 180 cm length includes the end with two straps.
